Eravikulam National Park

The Eravikulam National Park is located near the tea growing area of Munnar in the district of Idukki, Kerala. Munnar is some 130 km's from the seaport of Kochi on the Arabian Sea. The park was declared a national park in 1978 and covers an area of 97 sq.kms. The park is renowned for the Nilgiri Tahr (Hemitragus hylocrius). Some 2500 individuals survive today in the grasslands of the Western Ghats at altitudes above 1200 meters. Eravikulam holds the largest population of Tahr goats.
