Radio Broadcasting
Broadcasting started in India in 1927 and the present government owned All India Radio was formed in 1930. AIR's FM and AM network cover practically all the inhabited regions of India through a network of 208 broadcasting centers. The commercial Indian radio industry is relatively small at Rs 2.4 bn one reason being high licensing costs. 20 private radio stations are currently operating throughout India but this number should increase considerably in the coming years.
